Lake Trasimeno

Umbria has a green heart and a blue lake, Lake Trasimeno. The lake is named after the tragic love story between Prince Trasimenus, son of the powerful Etruscan King Tyrrhenus and the nymph Agilla, who dragged him down into the depths of the lake, to keep him with her for eternity. History also consists of dates and the key date for Lake Trasimeno is the epic battle, in 217 BC, between the Hannibal's Carthaginian army and the Romans led by the Consul Caius Flaminius. The lake is dotted with three beautiful islands, Maggiore, Minore, Polvese.
